La Asamblea de Extremadura, una vez carente de función el antiguo Hemiciclo y teniendo en cuenta los nuevos requerimientos de la sede institucional así como las líneas estratégicas del Plan Director, planteó la necesidad de recuperar el espacio que históricamente, con anterioridad a su actual uso civil, fue ocupado por la Iglesia del Hospital de San Juan de Dios.

Cabe destacar la aparición durante el desarrollo de las obras de un mosaico y las estructuras que lo delimitan, ubicado en el la zona principal de la sala, cuyas características dimensionales y cromáticas justificaban la integración del mismo y su visión mediante su cubrición con un pavimento de vidrio.
