Serra Da Estrela, Alforfa Valley
Portugal

In the portela, next to the crossing to Unhais da Serra, there is an interesting cut in the side moray of the Alforfa glacier. It is one of the best preserved in Serra da Estrela. It is a crest with steep slopes, about 4 meters high, in a direction approximately Northwest-Southeast, witnessing a phase, in which the Vale da Alforfa was occupied by a glacier about 200m thick. It is possible to observe a deposit of blocks of many dimensions, where there is a mixture of pebbles and granite blocks, without any organization, surrounded by a siltoarenous mantle. Unlike a watercourse, a glacier can jointly transport and deposit fine material, sand and silt, and large blocks.
