This outstanding piece of engineering and architectural design was built by the Russian engineer and scientist Vladimir Shukov in 1922, soon after the Civil War devastated Russia. It's original projected height was 300+ meters, but the post-war shortage of steel forced the builders to decrease it to 160 meters.
