Salt mines (Saline in asturiano1) are a parish of the council of Castrillón, in the Principality of Asturias (Spain). It shelters a population of 4,517 inhabitants (NSI 2009) 2 in 2.623 houses. ² occupies an extension of 3.77 km. Salt mines are a bath town and are the second locality more populated with the council, behind their capital, White Stones, of which are 2 km. The parish limits the north with the Bay of Biscay, to the east, with the councils of Gozón and Avilés; to the south with the one of Avilés; and to the west, with the parish of Laspra. It has one of one of the most extensive beaches of Asturias, being divided in three: Salt mines proper, the Espartal and San Juan. Salt mines lodge the Museum of Anchors Philippe Cousteau, in whose surroundings is the monument to Philipe Cousteau, work of Vicente Menéndez-Santarúa Prendes.
