SNOWLAND ... sports and recreational resort located at the foot of the Lúčanská part of the Malá Fatra Mountains in the Valčianska dolina valley. It is 12.5 km from the town of Martin. The ski resort with modern architecture was built as a suburban centre with simple access for motor vehicles. Free parking places are prepared for 500 cars and 10 buses. Favourably orientated north-east slope provides good skiing and snowboarding conditions from December to March. Regulated and artificially snowed ski slopes lie 510 – 830 metres above sea level. There are 6 ski runs with total length of 4,700 m – levels from difficult through tourist to gentle. SNOWLAND offers its visitors new modern 4-seat chair lift 1,320 m long and with transport capacity of 2,000 people per hour and 5 ski lifts with total capacity of 5,200 people per hour. For the youngest skiers and beginners there is a mini ski lift and ski or snowboard school. The SNOWLAND area focuses on family skiing with a high level of complementary services. Visitors can go to the stylish HUMNO restaurant and the PIVNICA cafeteria, buffets right on the slopes, SKI-service, ski and snowboard school, tourist information bureau, rental, depository and sale of sports equipment. Ice skating ring is very popular with skaters. The Snowland resort is equipped with artificial light giving visitors an opportunity to enjoy night skiing and snowboarding. Fans of cross-country skiing can use tracks near the ski centre with total length of 12 km.

This is an overview of Europe

Europe is generally agreed to be the birthplace of western culture, including such legendary innovations as the democratic nation-state, football and tomato sauce.

The word Europe comes from the Greek goddess Europa, who was kidnapped by Zeus and plunked down on the island of Crete. Europa gradually changed from referring to mainland Greece until it extended finally to include Norway and Russia.

Don't be confused that Europe is called a continent without looking like an island, the way the other continents do. It's okay. The Ural mountains have steadily been there to divide Europe from Asia for the last 250 million years. Russia technically inhabits "Eurasia".

Europe is presently uniting into one political and economic zone with a common currency called the Euro. The European Union originated in 1993 and is now composed of 27 member states. Its headquarters is in Brussels, Belgium.

Do not confuse the EU with the Council of Europe, which has 47 member states and dates to 1949. These two bodies share the same flag, national anthem, and mission of integrating Europe. The headquarters of the Council are located in Strasbourg, France, and it is most famous for its European Court of Human Rights.

In spite of these two bodies, there is still no single Constitution or set of laws applying to all the countries of Europe. Debate rages over the role of the EU in regards to national sovereignty. As of January 2009, the Lisbon Treaty is the closest thing to a European Constitution, yet it has not been approved by all the EU states.
