Te Matau a Pohe Distant Chant

Te Matau a Pohe- Whangarei's new bridge.

A Bascule Bridge can be defined as one that has a moveable section with a counterweight that balances the "leaf" while that is being moved from its closed position to allow the passage of boats.

The challenge, or Karanga is all part of an elaborate ceremony of welcome- I would love it if someone reading this would put thier own definition in terms of what happened at the bridge that morning.

so many people and car clubs went to a lot of effort to present there cars for this event and some travelled considerable distance. Probably 100 or so classic and vintage cars and bus's and many motorcycles.. Where are the photos of these???

    More About Northland

Auckland is the commercial capital of New Zealand but anything to the North can be considered "Northland". Preferred destination for tourists and workers alike when surf, sand, diving and fishing is involved. It has a solid rural base of Dary, Beef and Sheep as well as horticulture and wineyards. Whangarei is the regional city on the way up to Cape Reinga at the northernmost tip of the island.
