Wallfahrtskirche Pöllauberg

Pöllauberg Pilgrimage Church.

Built around the middle of the 14. century at an elevated site on a foothill of the Masenberg, and visible from afar. One of the most important church edificies of the High-Gothic Period in Styria. A hall church with cross-ribbed vaulting and centre pillars, finely articulated interior space with rich masonry decorations (choir). Adaption of the interior in Baroque style ensued after lighting had destroyed roof and Gothic tower of the church in 1674. In strong contrast to the Gothic architecture the magnificent high altar (1714). Attractive pulpit and valuable organ with carved case (1684).
