Wulipu Siaolin Community permanent housing
Taiwan
In order to reconstruct the Xiaolin Village that was buried by a mudslide triggered by Typhoon Morakot in 2009 and that claimed 700 lives, the government and some charitable organizations built new houses for the survivors and their relatives at the Jiaxian and Shanling Districts. One hundred twenty houses were built in the Wulipo Permanent Housing Community in Jiaxian District with help from the Red Cross. The built area totaled 5.8 hectares. Designed in the style of single-family semi-detached house, patios have good lighting and ventilation. The houses, the neighborhood park, and community center plus other public facilities all bear the Pingpu tribe's traditional designs, thus achieving the goal of indigenous culture preservation.
