新街礼拜堂于1848年由美国归正教会兴建，1933年重建，总建筑面积802平方米，砖石木结构，典型的哥特式建筑，是近代基督教传入中国后新建的第一 座教堂，被称为“中华第一圣堂”，1982年3月列入厦门市第二批市级文物保护单位，去年6月列入福建省第六批省级文物保护单位。
中华城总建筑面积16万平方米，配有1100个停车位。在规划设计上，中华城秉持“生态园林”的开发理念，打造立体绿色的商业空间，传承南洋骑楼建筑风格，构筑全天候购物环境。
据悉，“中华城”将以保留的古建筑为轴心构建大型休闲广场，并斥巨资打造长达150米的室内音乐喷泉和国际标准的真冰滑冰场，同时还包括大型超市、精品百货、主题餐饮、品牌旗舰、主题运动馆、3C数码广场、豪华电影院等。
