In 1913, the State of Illinois provided $20,000 to proceed for what would become the Illinois Monument. On June 27, 1914, fifty years after the battle had taken place, the monument was unveiled. The Civil War Battle here at Cheatham Hill resulted in over 3000 casualties in less than an hour. It is a part of the Kennesaw Mountain National Park.
