Toscana. Pisa. San Michele in Borgo.
Pisa
The earliest mention of the Chiesa di San Michele in Borgo and its adjoining monastery dates back to 1016, when the previously existing chapel was transformed and dedicated to the Archangel Michael, on the basis of a direction from the Benedictine monk Bono. The building in its present state is the result of a long series of changes, beginning with the 13th century and ending with the completion of the repair work in 1963 after the Second World War. The central entrance of the church is crowned with a Gothic statue of the Madonna with a baby and angels, and above there are three rows of loggias.
