The Basilica "Birnau" stands on the south side of Lake “Überlingen” between “Nussdorf” and “Uhldingen Muhlhofen”. The tower of the baroque building is 51 meters high. The choir was directed to the north. In this manner the front conforms better to the landscape. The church belongs to the Cistercian monastery Mehrerau.
