We're not all Barbies
Northland
Sue Matthews is a local (Northland, New Zealand) artist who kiln-fires a range of pottery. Here she is expressing a viewpoint about difference through the medium of dolls heads fixed on a range of wooden "bodies". The expressions of the dolls as well as the decoration on the legs gives substance to the truth that we are all "different". Perhaps "unique" might also be a word that Sue would use. The exhibition can be viewed at the Quarry Arts Centre until the 12th February (check out their website)

More About Northland

Auckland is the commercial capital of New Zealand but anything to the North can be considered "Northland". Preferred destination for tourists and workers alike when surf, sand, diving and fishing is involved. It has a solid rural base of Dary, Beef and Sheep as well as horticulture and wineyards. Whangarei is the regional city on the way up to Cape Reinga at the northernmost tip of the island.
