In November, Shearer's which is a shop in Kirkwall sets up a room with an old fashioned Christmas theme. Obviously their aim is to sell Christmas goods but it is a lovely peaceful place to visit. It is not unknown to find someone snoozing in the chair beside the fire while the rest of their family is elsewhere.
The shop also has a shop's cat. The cat doesn't belong to them but belongs to a neighbour. The cat has its own ideas and comes in each morning and is brought home again by its owner in the evening.
