Church of Sao Francisco, Main chapel, Porto
Portugal

The churches of the Franciscan convents are characterized by the heads made up of 3 polygonal chapels, reinforced by stepped buttresses, narrow and tall windows with pointed arch, and a vault carved in stone. than the two sides. From 1595 this church starts to receive several gilded altarpieces, with paintings. These would still be Renaissance, whose structure still appears in an altarpiece on the side nave. These first Renaissance altarpieces were being replaced by the current ones, from 1718. The baroque phase of Portuguese carving began around 1695 (F.Sampaio)
