臼杵山は市道山や苅寄山と共に戸倉三山の一つです。標高は低いですが、この山に登るのは結構しんどいです。荷田子集落から登るのが一般的ですが、荷田子から登る尾根の南側から登って合流するルート、檜原町役場近くから登るルートもあります。いずれにせよ1時間半から2時間近くかかります。戸倉三山はアップダウンが尾根道に結構あって以外と大変です。この日はこんな霧になってしまい何も見えませんが、何となく幻想的な景色ではありました。晴れていれば最近は頂上付近が一部伐採されたので都心方向がよく見えます。
