The Gilcal church, which stood about 1/10 mile east at the time of the Battle of Gilgal Church, was rebuilt following the Civil War at this location. The original log church was dismantled by the Confederate forces, with the logs used to construct defensive positions. The trenches were reconstructed at this site.
