Shimla Station located at a height of 2076 metres is the 3rd highest station in India. It is the terminus of the Kalka Shimla Railway - a 96 Km narrow gauge mountain railway line built during the British Raj between 1898 and 2003. In 2008 the railway was declared a UNESCO World heritage site.
