Abraham Lincoln was the 16th President of the United States of America. He was born on February 12, 1809 and died by an assassin’s bullet on April 15, 1865. He is buried in a stately tomb in the Oakridge Cemetery, Springfield, Illinois. He was president through one of the most trying times in U.S. History, the War Between the States or Civil War. Also buried in the tomb are his wife, Mary Todd Lincoln and three of their four sons. The fourth son is buried in Arlington National Cemetery in Arlington, Virginia. The burial location is housed in a granite monument topped by an imposing obelisk. The burial room is constructed of black and white marble with a ceiling of gold leaf. At the center of the room, stands the cenotaph, a 7-ton block of red marble on which are inscribed Lincoln's name and the years he lived.
