Lake Lascelles in Hopetoun
Victoria

Panorama of Lake Lascelles in Hopetoun. The lake is supplied with water from the Grampians Wimmera Mallee irrigation system. After the lake had been dry for nearly 10 years the conversion of the GWM irrigation system from open channels to pipeline should ensure the lakes future. The small rural town of Hopetoun is a service town to the vast farms in the Mallee region.

Edward Harewood Lascelles bought Corrong Station and lobbied for a subdivision of land. Corrong Station was renamed to Hopetoun in honour of the visit of Lord Hopetoun, the Governor of Victoria in 1891 when the first blocks of land were sold in the township of Hopetoun.
