Indian lake is part of the chain of lakes, that mkake up the Rideau Canal. The canal links the Capital Ottawa, with Kingston on the northern shores of lake Ontario. The canal was opened in 1832 and was constructed to provide a secure supply route from Montréal to Kingston, avoiding the vulnerable St. Lawrence River route.
