En Savoie, Plagne désigne un lieu relativement plat, un plateau, parfois de petite dimension. C'est le nom du lieu-dit où l'on a décidé d'implanter la première station, sur ce lieu étonnamment plat, enserré dans un cirque montagneux, avec vue sur le Mont Blanc. Depuis 2003, La Plagne forme, avec la station voisine des Arcs, le domaine Paradiski, grâce au Vanoise Express. Le domaine s'étend sur 10 000 hectares, de 1 250 m à 3 250 m, des pommiers de la vallée au glacier de Bellecôte et sur quatre communes (Macôt-La Plagne, Aime, Bellentre, et Champagny-en-Vanoise). Paradiski offre 425 km de pistes balisées dont 125 sur le massif de la Plagne., et aussi un immense domaine non balisé, et de célèbres itinéraires hors-pistes (tels la face nord du sommet de Bellecôte ou le Friolin).

France is affectionately referred to as "the Hexagon" for its overall shape.French history goes back to the Gauls, a Celtic tribe which inhabited the area circa 300BC until being conquered by Julius Caesar.The Franks were the first tribe to adopt Catholic Christianity after the Roman Empire collapsed.
