View of Old Riga from the Ferris wheel on Livu Square
Riga

Last winter Old Riga welcomed a very unusual visitor. The giant Ferris wheel “Hanse Rad”, which was touring Eastern Europe, made itself at home on Livu Square offering an exciting and very different view of the city’s historic centre.

Those brave enough to challenge the cold weather were rewarded with a new perspective on Riga. Rising 40 metres above the ground in just a few moments, flying past streets and rooftops, many fascinating discoveries sprung into view. Peculiar stone animals and birds sit with perfect calm on buildings’ façades, hidden terraces and old chimneys emerge here and there; the sun glints from the many gilded elements that generously decorate the town…

More About Riga

Originated from a small fishermen village, for centuries Riga has been an important part of the trade chain between Russia and Western Europe. A lively crossroad of cultures and backgrounds for over 800 years, the historical centre of Riga has accumulated an impressive cultural baggage and today is justly included in the UNESCO’s World Heritage list.
