From here on top of a petrified sand dune (Navajo sandstone) you can survey the main part of the Red Fleet State Park, including the campground and marina as well as a good portion of the Red Fleet reservoir. To the north east, you catch a glimpse of the ridges of Navajo sandstone that rise like ships bows from the "sea", giving the park its name. The late summer setting sun brings out the pale reds, oranges, whites and pinks of the sandstone which contrasts with the greens of the juniper and sage and the blues of the reservoir.
