The Gate of the Caogong Irrigation Canal
Taiwan
The Caogong Irrigation Canal has been one of the most important water conservancy building in Taiwan. The construction of the irrigation canal was directed by the then-Fenshan County Mayor, Cao Jin during Qing dynasty in 1839. Local agriculture prospers because of the canal. Thus the canal was named after the Mayor as "Caogong Irrigation Canal". During the Japanese colonial period, it was renovated with reinforced concrete, and changed the shape of the water-gate to square.
