Mashezero village, located near Petrozavodsk, XVIII - early XIX century enjoyed great popularity in Petrozavodsk. Come here and many pilgrims came to pray at the ancient Elias Church. More than 500 years ago near the village on the island of the lake stood Mashezero Elias Monastery, under Catherine II transformed into a parish. Its main temple - Elijah - was an ancient icon of St.. Elijah. According to legend, she sailed down the river Mashezerke unturned. Before the revolution in Mashezero lived 280 people, it was a big village. During World War II a lot people died. Old people died. During the Soviet village completely deserted.
