Западнее Волочка расположено обширное <Вышневолоцкое водохранилище. Это старейшее водохранилище в России (не считая пруда Алапаевского завода на Урале), и первоначально оно называлось Заводским (от заводов Сердюкова, стоявших на берегах). Его создал еще Сердюков, и изначальная его площадь составляла всего 9 км2. Однако это водохранилище было важнейшей частью проекта Сердюкова, так как оно поддерживало постоянный уровень воды в Цне и Тверецком канале, что позволяло судам проходить Вышневолоцкий водный путь в межень. При Осипе Ивановиче Корицком водохранилище было расширено до 68 км2 (тогда же была насыпана земляная дамба около Московско-Петербургской дороги, защитившая тракт от затопления), а последняя его реконструкция проводилась в 1930-е годы, когда водохранилище достигло площади 109 км2, превратившись в огромный резервуар пресной воды. Тогда же в нескольких километрах южнее Волочка был прорыт Ново-Тверецкий канал протяженностью 5 километров, по которому вода Цны и Мсты поставлялась в Тверцу, а оттуда, через Волгу и канал имени Москвы ; в столицу, обеспечивая 8% потребляемой в Москве воды.
