Der Zollkanal wurde Ende des 19. Jahrhunderts als verbindender Schifffahrtskanal gebaut, um das 1888 geschaffene Freihafengebiet zu umfahren. Der Zollkanal verband somit das Zollinland, während das Freihafengebiet Zollausland war. Er verläuft am nördlichen Rand der Speicherstadt.

Because of the nearby sea, you will always have some fresh breeze while you are walking through the streets with nice private town-houses or while you are floating along aboard an “Alsterdampfer” on the river Alster.
