这个船闸建成后可双线通行，来回的船只互相不受影响。船闸可通行载客为10～20人的船只，每一闸能放行两艘船只。远期规划建成后，能通行载客为40人的船只。据介绍，船闸还有一个功能就是能防止汛期竹排冲的洪水通过连通明渠倒灌进入南宁市区。要是竹排冲洪水大，可以马上关闭船闸，洪水就被堵在闸门外面。目前，船闸的主体工程已经完工，本月底就可以通水行船。
