Originally called Eagles Nest Point, the lighthouse was built in 1891 after the sinking of the ship Joseph Scammell. It is perched on the cliffs 70 metres above sea level and can be seen 30 kilometers away.

This is the end of a trail (they call it a boardwalk) to the beach in Gearhart, Oregon, overlooking the Pacific Ocean.  This is not far from where Lewis and Clark first set eyes on the Pacific.
