Laguna Sactaycocha began to disappear into the shadow as the valley below, quebrada Janajanca was slowly engulfed by darkness.Yanacon Pass, also known as Pucahirca Pass at 4,610m a.s.l. was my last hurdle of the day.

Laguna Huecrococha at 3,950m a.s.l is a large lake by Andean standard here. Relatively secluded with a milder weather it is the site of an active trout farming business here.

Not a single soul in sight I strolled leisurely down the valley amidst lush vegetations and soon found myself straying away from the main trail to reach this outcrop with a glimpse of the distant glaciated Mt Taulliraju.

The plain below rolls out gently as a green grazing field on the other side of Mt. Pucaraju. There is no clear trail here and one just heads out the valley naturally.

A well-formed rocky path zig-zags its way up the steep slope of black Mt Pucaraju to this mountain pass at 4,640 m a.s.l. with a commanding view of the surrounding glaciated peaks of cordillera Blanca.
