The broad peaks of  Palcaraju (6,274m) appears like a giant curtain of ice near the end of  quebrada Cojup and its glacier feeds its melt into a beautiful lake which wil soon come into view.

I made the drastic and stupid decision to descend back to the valley floor and proceeded along the heavily morrained terrain to end up at this gully which unbeknown to me then is really a cul-de-sac.

As I reached the edge of this plateau a series of minor peaks slowly came into full view on my right side above the steep slope and I knew then that Paso Huapi should lie somewhere between those minor peaks up there.

The dark green lake of Churup (4,450m) lies on a mountain ridge between quebrada Cujop and quebrada Quilcahuanca.  A smaller lake called Churupita sits just below the towering Nevado Churup (5,498m) in front.
