通吴门:      历史上常州城郭有四次较大规模的修葺,分别为内子城、外子城、罗城、新城。而最大者为罗城,城墙“周围二十七里三十步,高一丈厚,称之吴。天顺二年刺史徐景邁築,门有九,東通吴、次東懐德、南德安、次南廣化、西朝京、北青山、次北和政、東北東欽,外皆有池”。沧桑巨变,城桓毁坏,城池湮没。今在通吴门旧址处重修水程“通吴门”,以企重现当年景象。

西赢门:      明太祖朱元璋派大将汤和驻守常州,这里是军队西营房所在地,城墙外是京杭大运河,城墙内就是“西营里”。旧时西营里一带店铺众多,遇有火情时常因城墙阻隔,至运河汲水困难,延误救火。于是各商界、各行业集捐,于1023年12月修此城门,取名“西瀛门”。“瀛”与“营”谐音,取以水克火之意,此为常州目前仅存古城门。“西营里”随之称为“西瀛里”。
