Swales like this are common on the glacier. This one seems largely formed by meltwater, but many seem to be formed by wind scour. Winds here can reach 100 mph.

Abendstimmung bei der Gandegghütte mit Sicht auf den unteren Theodulgletscher, das kleine Matterhorn und das Breithorn. An der Hütte vorbei ist auch das Matterhorn zu sehen.

Das Breithorn ist ein beliebter Viertausender. Trotzdem ist der Aufstieg nicht ganz harmlos. Wir müssen die Steigeisen montieren und sind die meiste Zeit auf dem Gletscher angeseilt.

An dieser Stelle ist der Furgg Gletscher nicht mehr mit Geröll bedeckt. Deshalb müssen wir die Steigeisen an den Schuhen befestigen.
