Here the Val Pianezzoli widens for a bit and creates this picturesque jungly plain overgrown with lush greenery and alder trees. One of my favourite spots in greater Val Pogallo.

Upstream from the gorge at L'Arca the riverbed widens again. From this side of the gorge it can be seen that the upper half of it is filled with a lake and can only be negotiated by swimming.

This image was taken near Colma di Vercio, which is a pass connecting Mergozzo and Corte Bue. Nearby are the marble quarries which yield the marble for the Milan Dome; some of the works can be seen on the image.

The trail from Pogallo to Pian di Boit is well-made, as can be seen from these sturdy bridges crossing the stream. At this time of year there's little water, but at times these streams turn into raging torrents.

Pian di Boit is roughly half-way between Pogallo and Bocchetta di Terza. There's a Bivacco Parco Nazionale Val Grande which is open to all. The setting on a lush meadow with a nice view is attractive.

Bocchetta di Terza itself is quite stony, but nearby is this lovely meadow on the ridge. It's a nice spot to have a break after the ascent and to enjoy the view in both directions.

Descending from Bocchetta di Terza, the trail eventually reaches the tree line roughly here. The scattered rowan and laburnum bushes give way to dense beech forest.

After a steep ascent from Pian di Boit through beech forest, the trail emerges into alpine meadows near Alpe Terza, which is in ruins. From here on there are lovely views all around.

The Strada Suttermeister runs from Cigogna to Pogallo. It's a comfortable, wide path which has beautiful views into Val Pogallo and at the surrounding mountains.
