Platt Fields is a large park in south Manchester. The path in the panorama runs parallel to the Nico Ditch - a mysterious ditch dating back to about 900AD - just to the other side of the railings.

The hill in Platt Fields park overlooks the lake. It is really not much of a hill - really a big pile of soil from the construction of the lake - but is an ideal place for a barbie on warm summer evenings.

Platt Fields lake was dug by 700 unemployed men in 1908-9. The shallow heart-shaped lake is fed by Gore Brook and is home to ducks, geese, swans and herons.
