In Helsingør (Elsinore precisely of Shakespeare's Hamlet) is Kronborg Castle, where William Shakespeare set his play Hamlet: for this reason, is held every summer in the courtyard a Shakespearean festival. The fortress is situated on the extreme tip of Zealand, where it is less than the distance between Denmark and Sweden: here the narrow, only 4 km wide and this adds a strategic importance to the construction.

Kronborg Castle has for centuries been one of the most important Renaissance castles in Northern Europe, and was added to the UNESCO November 30, 2000.
