This electric motorcycle is the brainchild of Green School Motorcycles, by Robert Engels. An existing motorcycle which has been converted from petrol to electricity. The motorcycle has been designed by students from Akershus University College, Hochschule für Gestaltung, Schwäbisch Gmünd Germany and Edinburgh Napier University Scotland. The bike is powered by 36 V Nickel-Cadmium rechargeable batteries. These batteries last up to 10 years, and can then be recycled. It can achieve a top speed of around 100 km/h, and has a range of 80-100 km. After just a few hours charging, the batteries can achieve 80-90% capacity again, while to reach 100% requires an overnight charge. The brief was to design bodywork for this electric motorcycle, while accomodating for the original frame and the batteries. Our main aim was to ensure that you could differentiate between this bike and regular motorbikes which run on petrol. The final outcome is a blend of the most popular ideas from several different drawings and models, combining an organic flowing form with strong lines and design elements which makes the bike different to any regular bike you see. The windows that let the user see the batteries and the heart of the bike show visually that the bike is different on the inside as well as the outside. The absence of the petrol tank demonstrates how it is not required, and also allows the viewer to see through the form to the other side, making the bike appear visually lighter, while keeping the outer form has sustained the driving sensation and handling ability.
