Some background on this particular building? Yes. This building is easily the worst eyesore in the center of Prague. Originally built by (who else) the communists back in the "screw history, screw style, screw context, just make it square and wasteful" days, this was once the only hotel available to foreigners. Now, it is a nice fancy place where you can drink a mineral water for more than 5 times the price of the pub just across the street (although yes, you won't be shouted at by the staff here). Just remember the best part about staying in the ugliest building in town - you have the best view ;-)
