Simon Rodia's Watts Towers One of Los Angeles' most intriguing landmarks. In the 1950s it was almost demolished by the city, but saved by a few tenacious admirers. Bud Goldstone, writer and art conservation engineer, was instrumental in saving the monument from the bureaucrats and afterwards consulted on the restoration.

Mariachi Party for the Virgin of Gudalupe's feast day celebration

The Virgin of Guadalupe is Mexico's most loved religious and cultural icon. Each year there is a feast day celebration held in her honor on December 12th. This feast day celebration was at Hacienda Duran in Whittier and featured the all-female Mariachi band Trio Ellas Son (the basic 3-person group of violin, guitar and base showed up but they have a full band with trumpets and other stringed instruments). They played and sang wonderfully for over 2½ hours.
