Castillo de San Diego de Alcalá, Castillos de Guayana, Delta Amacuro (Venezuela)
Venezuela

What is commonly known as Los Castillos de Guayana, are two forts made by the Spanish Empire, built to protect the vulnerable population of Santo Tome de Guayana of constant attacks from warring Indians and pirates of the seven seas.

The second of these castles to be completed was the Castillo de San Diego de Alcalá or Campo Elias, its construction took from 1734 to 1747, nestled in the hills of the Hill "El Padrastro" (The Stepfather), where you get an overview of the Orinoco, gaps "The Baratillo" and "La Ceiba" and the town on the banks of river. The Castle of San Diego provided support to Fort San Francisco, which, being on the banks of the river was easy prey to incursions by pirates and buccaneers.
