旗山國小創立於民國前十年，前身是日治時期的蕃薯藔公學校，為百年古蹟校舍，已於民國89年指定為高雄縣縣定古蹟。

校園整體為「長廊」元素，有質樸的山牆與優雅拱廊。其呈現出藝術風華，融合鄉情人文特色，結合視覺穿透式的「綠林道」、「玻璃天橋」、「圖書館」以及戶外舞台、階梯劇場，讓學生在「倚樹而生」的建築中快樂學習。
