At El Caracol in Texcoco
Mexico

The Caracol was formed by the sediment of the Lago de Texcoco. It is called el caracol (the snail) for its unusual spiral shape, approximately 3,200m in diameter. It was once used for the solar evaporation of water, to obtain sodium salts. It currently supplies water for industrial uses to the nearby regions, including parts of Mexico City.
