Holy Transfiguration Church in Sokobanja. The feast TRANSFIGURATION

The very name of Transfiguration holiday testify truthfully and confirms the fact prehrišćanskog and pagan origin. It is a primordial connection of man and nature, based on the omnipotence of nature over man and man's effort to act on nature and to give herself completely, and that is adapted to their needs and desires. Given the difficult and very limited conditions of the original company, with his first and very poor tools and capabilities of the then small man, it is clear that to achieve the desire for mastery over nature approached the magical and religious practices. It is known that the magic was created in prehistoric times, and in the original community, and many magical operations are transferred to a new era in its many forms, getting a civilization in conflict with new content and new forms. It is a phenomenon that often creates great difficulties in determining its historical and social background, as well as time and place of origin.

Transfiguration is immobile holiday (August 19). With him ends the annual cycle of summer practices and autumn begins. On this day, transformed, or substantially change the nature. Transforms the stones into the water and leaves in the mountains. It is a very sharp turn and the exclusive, much stronger and more powerful than the moon change. Since the days of the Transfiguration and the water in rivers and seas are becoming colder. From this day tabooed swimming in rivers, which means that at the Transfiguration of the swimming season ends. Sometimes, until the Second World War, the taboo respected. Today, the re-development of religious and magical consciousness, this prohibition applies only to the very holiday of the Transfiguration.

In the Serbian traditional culture before the Transfiguration were not allowed to eat grapes, or fish. The Transfiguration is wearing white grapes to the church to wake up to it. After this, and grapes could boldly enter the daily diet. After the consecration of grapes in the churches, it is shared instead nafore.

The Transfiguration of the early believers were stale. That day is done and the communion of believers in the churches and monasteries, as in the Lady's post. It also means that the Transfiguration of the fasting day. Was wrong to sleep during the day. The people believed that the person who would fall asleep on this holiday, and slept the whole year that would be useful and work in the future.

More About Europe

Europe is generally agreed to be the birthplace of western culture, including such legendary innovations as the democratic nation-state, football and tomato sauce. The word Europe comes from the Greek goddess Europa, who was kidnapped by Zeus and plunked down on the island of Crete. Europa gradually changed from referring to mainland Greece until it extended finally to include Norway and Russia.Don't be confused that Europe is called a continent without looking like an island, the way the other continents do. It's okay. The Ural mountains have steadily been there to divide Europe from Asia for the last 250 million years. Russia technically inhabits "Eurasia".Europe is presently uniting into one political and economic zone with a common currency called the Euro. The European Union originated in 1993 and is now composed of 27 member states. Its headquarters is in Brussels, Belgium.Do not confuse the EU with the Council of Europe, which has 47 member states and dates to 1949. These two bodies share the same flag, national anthem, and mission of integrating Europe. The headquarters of the Council are located in Strasbourg, France, and it is most famous for its European Court of Human Rights. In spite of these two bodies, there is still no single Constitution or set of laws applying to all the countries of Europe. Debate rages over the role of the EU in regards to national sovereignty. As of January 2009, the Lisbon Treaty is the closest thing to a European Constitution, yet it has not been approved by all the EU states. Text by Steve Smith.
