鳳山溪主河道及支流曹公圳環繞鳳山舊城，水系全長20公里，孕育鳳山地區發展。然而流域內的家庭與工業污水讓居民對這條都會型河川敬而遠之，因此市政府於2003年陸續開始5期整治工程。透過用地取得、河川水質改善、截流清淤、兩岸佔用戶拆遷及景觀綠化等整治，加連結周邊古蹟景點，鳳山溪流域如今儼然成為市民晨昏漫步，優游其中的水岸生活圈。
