Rotonda
Russia

Opposite to building of river station there is rotunda with the ladder conducting with top on the bottom terrace. The rotunda has appeared already in the fifties in process of construction of quay, but it is constructed just on that place where the rotunda of quay of pre-war Stalingrada settled down. Style of construction of the rotunda and elements surrounding it in many respects was saved.

In days of the Second World War on this place the antiaircraft battery of 1083 antiaircraft regiment of lieutenant M.A.Baskakova settled down. Rescuing wounded soldiers and the civilians expecting evacuation, arrows of antiaircraft installation over open sights shot the enemy tanks moving along the street Lenin. On August, 23rd, 1942 by the life of arrow of antiaircraft installation have stopped aggressors, without having admitted them to Volga.

The memorial board established on rotunda tells about this fight. It is opened in 1947. "Here there was the antiaircraft battery which calculation in 1942 with firmness reflected attacks of the German tanks, trying to make the way to Volga. In unequal fight fighters-zenitchiki have fallen death of the brave."
