新北市石碇區的烏塗溪與崩山溪、大溪墘溪等兩條支流皆為景美溪的上游，流經石碇，深坑，木柵，景美後，注入新店溪。距今一百年前，明治四十一年 (西元1908年)，日本政府拓寬木柵路；大正八年(西元1919年)，台北鐵道公司成立，景美石碇之間遂建有輕便鐵道。而在這些陸地交通運輸未發達之前，景美溪是重要的運輸孔道。根據史料記載，石碇鄕八分寮楓子林渡口(在今石碇高中下方)可以停泊百艘舢舨。
