   碧壤峡谷位于位于香格里拉县城西北部80多公里处,因峡谷一头名"香格",另一头名"里拉",故又名"香格里拉"峡谷,据说在《消失的地平线》一书中所说的"蓝月亮峡谷"就是这里。走进峡谷,天蓝、林密、水清,花香扑鼻,不时还会有啁啾的小鸟一掠而过,清灵秀气,有如一片未受污染的"净土"。不过游人最感兴趣的还是碧壤峡谷的自然风光。碧壤峡谷,离中(甸)乡(城)公路不远。 沿上村公路走进峡谷,一路上水声轰鸣,雾气空蒙,两岸尽是坡度为70度至90度的悬崖绝壁,仰观摇摇欲坠。壁高在1000米以上,起码耸云天,令人心惊胆寒,走进碧壤峡谷如走进一条蜿蜒曲折的深巷。

  在迪庆旅行,处处见到詹姆斯·希尔顿笔下所描绘的高原风光,而以碧壤峡谷为主的中甸北部峡谷群,更令游人迷醉,被统称为“香格里拉峡谷群”。
  香格里拉大峡谷位于香格里拉至乡城公路103公里处、格咱乡小雪山山脚。峡谷景观曾经震撼了许多光临之人,中国、瑞典植物考察团称 叹碧壤峡谷是个“奇峡”。此峡谷深而窄,壁高1000多米,最宽处约80米,最窄处仅10余米,可谓“一线中分天作堑,两山峡斗石为门”。碧让河水从切割 深度为1000—2000米深的碧壤峡谷中冲出,在2.5公里长的悬岩绝壁间,形成汹涌的激流、轰鸣的声响。深峡激流又笼罩在水雾云雾中,显得幽深神秘, 犹如深藏于世外的“仙境”,只不过这“仙境”在朦胧中分明又是一种富于传奇色彩的惊险奇境,仿佛是探险者和江湖游侠隐居之地。
  碧壤峡谷直耸云天的绝壁上,分布着岩画,那各种各样的图形,至今人们还未能探究清楚其表达的意义。根据其较为粗犷的轮廓和模糊的印迹,有关专家考证为古代迁徒民族留下的符号,其营造下的某种文化氛围,使峡谷凭添了几分悠久古朴的人文意蕴。
  峡底的参天古木仿佛已经和涌流绝壁融为一体,显示出强大的生命力。当幽深的峡谷突然开阔起来时,莽莽林海、青青草场就铺展在了眼前。那林海是至今保存完 好的原始森林,在峡谷中跋涉了许久,再进入这种未经人类斧锯侵扰和自然条件恶劣的古森林怀抱,会觉得真正地回归自然了。
