With more than 24,000 inhabitants, Leoben is the second largest city in Styria. The city has a long tradition in mining and metallurgy. With a Voestalpine plant in the Donawitz district, Leoben has one of the most important locations in the Austrian iron and steel industry. The city is considered the center of the Upper Styrian industrial area and is the seat of the Montanuniversität.
