Seiseki Sakuragaoka Station / 聖蹟桜ヶ丘駅
Tama

Annual trip to Tokyo, August 2012. Seiseki Sakuragaoka station on the Keio line.

Photo was taken with reference to Whisper of the Heart 耳をすませば (1995 Studio Ghibli movie). This is the model for the station where Shizuku as well as the cat get off the train early in the movie, just before a cat chase is triggered. OK, so the station is not drastically different visually from many of the other Keio line stations, but it does play a Country Road jingle whenever a train is approaching! I’d read about this prior to my trip but had to smile when I actually heard the tune really play at the station. I’m not sure how much the station itself has changed since the movie came out, but this is what it looks like in 2012.

More About Tama

Tama area is the name of the western part of Tokyo Metropolis.  It consists of 26 cities, 3 towns and a village.  A lot of people (about 4 milion) live in a eastern half part of the area.  However, there are many mountains in the western part of Tama area, and there are very little flat land.  Many hiking spots are in the western area, so you can enjoy walking on the trail, camping, and so on.  If you see the beautiful mountain scene, you may not believe this is also in Tokyo.
